The historic visitor mine was rediscovered by chance in 1998. By a lot of volunteer work, it was made again accessible for visitors. Mining from the 15th to the 17th century was mainly for silver.  Heavy spathic passages with copper and silver containing pale ores occur mainly in the Freudenstadt and Neubulach areas. Centuries ago, the 68-meter-deep shaft was sunk in stages as a ventilation shaft onto the historic Christoph’s tunnel.
Sinking (also: bringing down) is a term from the miner's language.
It refers to the creation of vertical cavities (shafts or boreholes) from top to bottom for the development of deposits.
The shaft can be visited in different inspection- and difficulty levels.
